              A cableway transports excavated boulders from the Gold Pan Pit at the Gold Pan Mining Company operations just south of Breckenridge, Colorado. Boulders larger than 8 inches were lifted from the pit by rectangular metal platforms edged on three sides called "stone boats". The cableway transported and disposed the rocks from the pit, and carried heavy pipes and equipment into the pit. Circa early 1900s.

              The Reliance dredge at French Gulch east of Breckenridge, Colorado in 1906. In the foreground is a floating wood platform used to ferry workers, equipment and supplies between the dredge and the shoreline. The Reliance, built under Ben Stanley Revett and the Reliance Gold Dredging Company, started operations in 1905. By 1906 it was working between the Wellington and Country Boy Mines in French Gulch. Rock tailings in the background, and a view of the Tenmile Range.

              Tonopah No.1 dredge operating on the Blue River near Breckenridge, Colorado, in 1917. It was built in 1907-1908 on the lower Swan River by the Colorado Dredging Company and first called the Colorado I. The dredge worked downstream, but ceased operations in 1910 when it arrived at the Swan River's confluence with the Blue River and broke down. It sat idle until The Tonopah Placers Company purchased it in 1914.

              Risdon No. 3 gold dredge on the lower Swan River near Breckenridge, Colorado, in July 1899, prior to construction of the housing. This was the third Risdon dredge built by the North American Gold Dredging Company. Operations began by August 19, 1899; it sank on July 27, 1900. Despite being raised, the dredge did not operate again.

              Two Bucyrus dredges, the Colorado I (right) and Colorado II (left), in the Swan River Valley at Valdora, north of Breckenridge, Colorado. Circa April 1908. The Colorado I dredged down the Swan River and turned up the Blue River, where it broke down in 1910 and sat idle until 1914. It operated on and off on the Blue River from 1914-1942. The Colorado II went up the Swan River where it operated continuously until 1919. In 1914, both dredges were purchased by the Tonopah Placers Company and renamed Tonopah No. 1 and Tonopah No. 2.

              The Tonopah No. 2 dredge makes its way up the Swan River, north of Breckenridge, Colorado, circa 1915. It was built in 1907-1908 on the Swan River at Valdora by the Colorado Dredging Company and first called the Colorado II. It was purchased by the Tonopah Placers Company in 1914 and renamed Tonopah No. 2. The dredge worked the Swan River continuously until 1919 and was the seventh dredge built in the Breckenridge area.

              The Continental dredge (originally named the Yuba dredge) was the last dredge built for use in the Breckenridge, Colorado, area. Circa 1931. The Bucyrus-type dredge operated on the Blue River from 1917 to 1938, when it was dismantled and moved to Fairplay, Colorado. It was the last of the nine dredges operating around Breckenridge.

              Tiger No.1 dredge after it sank in the Blue River in Breckenridge, Colorado, in November 1937. A day earlier the 300-ton bucket line (in the foreground) dropped while crews were doing repair work, causing the dredge to twist and resulting in a crack in the hull. The dredge was raised and repaired, and operations resumed April 11, 1938. East-facing buildings on Main Street can be seen in the background.
